This road goes through the park and continues west to Irangi, the site of a former research facility out in the Congo Basin (and the former cottage the Belgian King Cottage of Leopold II). The road also passes a large montane swamp that hosts a large population of Grauer's Brush Warbler (Bradypterus graureri). This road may provide the easiest access to Albertine Rift forest anywhere.

     The travel time for this road varies depending on the type of vehicle, but it takes about five to seven hours to reach Cyangugu. There are several hotels near the border, which is open from 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. daily. Currently, a $30 fee is charged for an entry visa and you must leave your passport at the border.
