Fat Mama's Tamales first started to take form in 1987, when the local woman who made tamales in Natchez passed, and Jimmy and Britton Gammill began attempting to make tamales, well over the next 2 years they perfected their recipe, after numerous taste testing by their children, Poppy and David Gammill, Jimmy and Britton had their recipe down, friends and family were ordering them every weekend and soon Jimmy and Britton decided to open a tamale restaurant in Natchez.

Once the decision had been made to open a restaurant/tamale stand, the problem of naming the establishment arose... no-one knew what to call it. Well it just so happened that David and Poppy Gammill had started a small joke. The joke goes that "if Mama and Daddy keep screwing up the recipe, she is going to be a Fat Mama", well joking about being a fat mama, soon turned into naming the tamales restaurant/stand Fat Mama's Tamales and the legacy was started.

Although we only started with tamales, we have grown a little over the years and offer a small selective menu with exceptional food and service. Including our World Famous "Knock You Naked" Margaritas.

So if you haven't had a chance to get to Natchez to see and experience Fat Mama's Tamales, plan a vacation, take a trip, get out of the office and come on down to Natchez, its something you will never forget.
